No longer

We hugged in a way where I didn’t let you bend your spine 

“I don’t want to arch your back with misery” 

but I did

I flogged you until your skin 

were puzzle pieces too frail to put back 

I scratched at your spine and broke it to separate pieces 

they look like chewing toys for dogs 

I drank your marrow like a shot 

and spit it out in spite 

I arched your back with misery 

I arched your back with anger 

I scorched it for my simmering desire to belong 

until you 

were no 

longer
